ELKHART — A man is still recovering from his injuries after he was shot Friday night, Nov. 15, on the south side of Elkhart.

Leon L. Hunter, 29, was initially taken to Elkhart General Hospital, but then was transferred to Memorial Hospital in South Bend to be treated for his injuries.

Police responded at about 8:40 p.m. Friday to reports of shots fired in the area.

They found Hunter in the 300 block of West Indiana Avenue at the Washington Gardens apartments complex.

Officers blocked a parking lot between the apartments with police tape, collecting evidence and talking with neighbors along West Indiana Avenue until late Friday night.

Two neighbors on West Indiana Avenue said they heard between six and seven shots and saw two men running from the scene shortly before police arrived.

Capt. Kris Seymore, head of the criminal investigations department for the Elkhart Police Department, said no arrests have been made as of Monday afternoon.

Police continue to investigate the incident.
