Fire damages Elkhart home early Saturday

The house fire left one person in need of American Red Cross shelter.

ELKHART — A house fire early Saturday morning, Nov. 16, was quickly extinguished by the Elkhart Fire Department.

According to the fire department, the fire started in a second-floor bedroom of a home on Elizabeth Street in Elkhart. Crews arrived on the scene at 6:10 a.m. and the fire was under control by 6:29 a.m.

Firefighters were able to keep the fire from spreading to the first floor of the property, but the home suffered moderate to heavy damage.

Red Cross personnel report that they are providing shelter, clothing and food for one individual who was living in the home.
