ELKHART — A man was taken to the hospital Friday evening after a shooting near West Indiana Avenue.

As of late Friday, Nov. 15, the condition of the victim was unknown.

Police responded to a call of shots fired in the area, and a shooting victim was found in the 300 block of West Indiana Avenue.

Sgt. Travis Snider, a shift supervisor with the Elkhart Police Department, said police were initially dispatched to Garfield Avenue, but found the victim just off of West Indiana Avenue at the Washington Gardens apartment complex.

Officers blocked a parking lot between the apartments with police tape, collecting evidence and talking with neighbors along West Indiana Avenue.

Police could not confirm whether they were searching for a suspect or whether they had someone in custody.

Two neighbors on West Indiana Avenue said they heard between six and seven shots and saw two men running from the scene shortly before police arrived.
