ELKHART — A judicial official found probable cause to continue holding a man who was arrested at the scene of a homicide in Cleveland Township on Saturday.
Michael Shoun, 26, of Elkhart, was arrested on warrants for three cases at 29482 C.R. 1, Granger, where police found the body of Tiana Alter, 17.
Police responded to the home on C.R. 1 at 11:18 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 2. Following an autopsy, Elkhart County Coroner John White ruled Alter’s death a homicide. He said she died of multiple sharp force injuries.
Detectives with the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department completed their investigation on the homicide and forwarded the information to the prosecutor’s office Wednesday afternoon and requested formal charges.
Ed Windbigler, chief investigator at the prosecutor’s office, said a magistrate found probable cause for Shoun’s arrest in the homicide case Thursday afternoon.
However, the prosecutor’s office has not yet filed formal charges.
Alter’s family and friends are planning to gather for a candlelit vigil at 6:30 p.m. Thursday evening, Nov. 7, at Roosevelt Center, 215 E. Indiana Ave., Elkhart.
