Elkhart Police investigating playground arson

ELKHART — The Elkhart Police Department is investigating an arson that destroyed playground equipment at a city park.

The Elkhart Fire Department was dispatched at 3:30 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 30, to Edgewater Park at the intersection of Edgewater Boulevard and Okema Street.

When they arrived, firefighters found the playground equipment and the mulch beneath it on fire, according to an Elkhart Police Department news release.

The fire was determined to be arson and the investigation was passed to the police department.

The blaze caused more than $25,000 in damage and the playground equipment was deemed a total loss.
