ELKHART — The Elkhart County Prosecutor’s Office confirmed that police are conducting a criminal investigation after allegations were made that a NorthWood High School teacher engaged in inappropriate conduct with a student.

Wa-Nee Schools fired Spanish teacher Brooke Wilson on Monday, Oct. 14, following allegations that pointed to inappropriate conduct with a male high school student.

In a statement released Monday, Wa-Nee Schools superintendent Joe Sabo said Wilson was suspended Sept. 25 after the school corporation learned about the allegations.

The school board voted to cancel Wilson’s teaching contract. Wilson started working for the Wa-Nee School Corp. in 2012.

Ed Windbigler, chief investigator for the Elkhart County Prosecutor’s Office, said Wednesday that the sheriff’s department is investigating the case, but the investigation has not yet been forwarded to the prosecutor’s office.
