One person was taken to Elkhart General Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries after a shooting Wednesday evening.
Elkhart police were called to the 800 block of McDonald Street across from the playground of Mary Beck Elementary School at 7:04 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 9, for reports of a shooting.
Capt. Kris Seymore of the Elkhart Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Unit said one person was shot in the leg and was taken to the hospital by bystanders.
Seymore said several male suspects fled the scene in a vehicle.
He declined to give a description of the vehicle the suspects were driving.
Neighbors said police have responded to several incidents in the area in recent months, including a drive-by shooting in June in which no one was injured.
