Driver failing to yield causes two car crash near Wakarusa Tuesday

WAKARUSA — A passenger in a car was taken to Elkhart General Hospital after a two-car crash near Wakarusa Tuesday afternoon, Oct. 1.

At approximately 3:37 p.m., Rene Vela, 30, of Elkhart, was stopped at the stop sign facing south on C.R. 9 when he drove into the intersection in front of a vehicle driven by Scott Morrison, 36, of Elkhart. Morrison crashed into Vela’s vehicle in the intersection, according to the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department.

Lilia Lira, a passenger in Vela’s vehicle, complained of back pain and was taken to EGH.

Both drivers were uninjured. Vela was cited for driving while suspended and failure to yield the right of way.
