Moore appears for initial hearing in murders
GOSHEN — A man accused of shooting and killing two people east of downtown Elkhart appeared in court Thursday, Sept. 12, for his initial hearing.
Kevin Moore, 28, of Elkhart, has been charged with two counts of murder. The charge of murder carries a sentence of 45 to 65 years in prison.
The hearing in Elkhart Circuit Court was brief. Judge Terry Shewmaker appointed a public defender to represent Moore and scheduled several dates in the case — a pretrial conference on Oct. 24, a status conference on Jan. 23, 2014 and jury trial on Feb. 3, 2014.
Police were called Thursday, Sept. 5, at 401 Middlebury St. two workers at Saleh’s Market — Jagtar Bhatti, 55, and Pawan Singh, 20 — were pronounced dead at the scene.
