Motorcyclist, passenger injured in crash with garbage truck north of Elkhart airport

ELKHART — Two people were injured when a motorcycle hit the back of a Borden trash truck stopped on the side of the road Friday, Sept. 6, in Cleveland Township north of Elkhart.

A man and a woman riding a motorcycle were taken to Elkhart General Hospital shortly before 10 a.m. after an accident on C.R. 5 just south of C.R. 2. The motorcycle was headed north on C.R. 5 when it attempted to pass the garbage truck, according to an Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department officer at the scene of the accident. The motorcycle hit the truck and the rear tire on the driver’s side.

The man complained to leg pain, and the woman had a fractured ankle, according to police. The names of the patients have not been released.
