ELKHART — An Elkhart man was stabbed in the abdomen Friday afternoon in what appeared to be a family argument, police said.

The Elkhart Police Department responded at 5:01 p.m. Friday, Sept. 6, to a home at 408 W. Garfield Ave. after a male called 911 crying and hung up.

They found a Hispanic male at the home suffering from a stab wound to the abdomen, said Lt. Todd Thayer of the Elkhart Police Department.

A second male was seated on the ground outside the home in handcuffs and was taken away in a police cruiser.

Thayer said there was a language barrier between the officers and the subjects, but it appeared that there had been an argument or fight between family members.

Detectives were on their way to the scene and would continue to investigate the incident, Thayer said.

Neighbors said the residents of the house had just moved in a few weeks ago and mostly keep to themselves.
