ELKHART — A woman was taken to the hospital after she was involved in a hit-and-run accident Tuesday night, July 30.

Elkhart police and fire departments were dispatched to the intersection of Hively Avenue and Prairie Street at about 9:30 p.m. A gray passenger vehicle sat on the northeast corner of the intersection with damage to its sides.

The driver of the car had to be extricated before she was taken to Elkhart General Hospital, said an officer at the scene of the accident.

Another vehicle involved in the accident fled before first responders arrived at the scene.

Sgt. Doug Ryback, of the police department, said the suspected driver of the other vehicle was found shortly after the accident and was taken to the hospital.
