$5,000 reward helps investigation into dog’s death
ELKHART — A $5,000 reward offered by the Human Society of the United States has generated more tips in an Elkhart animal cruelty investigation.
On Friday, July 5, Elkhart police officers brought a dog suffering from severe facial injuries to the Humane Society of Elkhart County. The dog’s injuries were so extensive that it had to be euthanized.
Officers told the Humane Society that children had thrown lit fireworks at the dog. The dog picked up one of the fireworks, which exploded in its mouth.
Lt. Mike Sigsbee of the Elkhart Police Department said the incident is still under investigation, but the reward money has prompted more people to come forward with information.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the Elkhart Police Department at 574-295-7070.
