One man injured in two-vehicle crash Wednesday morning

One driver complained of shoulder pain. The other driver had no injuries.

ELKHART — One man was injured in a two vehicle crash at Old U.S. 20 and C.R. 15 Wednesday morning, July 3.

Tim Eckert, 53, of South Bend, was driving southbound and towing a trailer on C.R. 15 with the intention to turn left onto Old U.S. 20 at approximately 10:26 a.m., according to a press release from the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department. David Kiebel, 59, of Elkhart, was driving westbound on Old U.S. 20.

Eckert told police he saw Kiebel turn on his right turn signal and Eckert began to turn. Kiebel told police that Eckert pulled out in front of him. The vehicles crashed into each other, according to the press release.

Eckert was not injured and Kiebel complained of left shoulder pain but refused treatment. Kiebel’s vehicle sustained extensive front end damage and Eckert’s trailer sustained extensive damage.

Eckert was cited for failure to yield right of way at a through highway.
