Elkhart police make arrest in shooting death

Elkhart police arrested a juvenile in the shooting death of 16-year-old Braxton Barham overnight.

Lt. Mike Sigsbee of the Elkhart Police Department said he was told they made an arrest before 4:30 a.m. He issued a press release later this Sunday morning, June 23.

Around 6:45 p.m. Saturday, police responded to reports of shots fired at 250 W. Garfield Ave. A youth later identified as 16-year-old Braxton Barham was found in the back yard of the home.

He was taken to Elkhart General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, according to police.

“They had a suspect from the beginning,” Sigsbee said of police. They arrested the juvenile male once they located him.

More details will be made available later today, Sigsbee said.
