MISHAWAKA — Officials are investigating the drowning death of an elderly woman found in a pond outside her assisted living facility.
The body of Christel Moryl, 89, of Mishwaka was found around 7:30 a.m. Monday, June 17, in a retention pond outside The Waterford at Edision Lakes, 1025 Park Place in Mishawaka, according to a news release from the Indiana DNR Law Enforcement Division.
Moryl suffered from dementia and was last seen around midnight Monday.
A caregiver told police Moryl was a social person but had gotten turned around inside the facility in the past.
The Mishawaka Police Department report states that it appears Moryl’s death was accidental. Indiana conservation officers investigate all water-related deaths.
