MIDDLEBURY — A 6-year-old boy is recovering from injuries sustained over the weekend, after his mother accidently hit him while backing out of a driveway.

Middlebury Police Department and an EMS unit were dispatched at about 10:45 a.m. Saturday, June 1, to the 100 block of U.S. Highway 20, west of S.R. 13.

Desiree Stauffer, 27, was backing her minivan out of the driveway not knowing her 6-year-old son ran behind the van.

The child sustained injuries to his head, his right hand and his right knee. He was flown to a hospital in Fort Wayne via MedFlight. Middlebury Deputy Chief Kevin Miller said the boy had non life-threatening injuries and could be released soon.
