GOSHEN — Video captured by a Goshen resident's home security system shows an Elkhart County Sheriff's Department cruiser running a red light and crashing into another motorist.
The video was recorded at Pike and Second Street on Monday, May 20, by Scott Michaels.
Capt. Jim Bradberry confirmed that at 4:55 p.m. Monday, Patrolman Kwau Kuntu was driving eastbound on Pike — and “for some reason disregarded the light at the intersection and was unable to avoid a collision with the other vehicle.” The other driver, Robin Haag of Goshen, was uninjured, although the crash caused damage to the passenger side of her vehicle.
Bradberry said the sheriff department's initial investigation has been completed. The total damage to both vehicles is estimated at $5,000 to $10,000.
Kuntu will be evaluated by the department's driving review board before any disciplinary action is taken, Bradberry said.
