Police investigate two reports of children left alone

GOSHEN — Police investigated two incidents Wednesday of young children found alone.

Goshen police responded to a vacant house in the 400 block of N. 5th Street, where they found a 4-year-old child and a 3-month-old child alone inside the house.

The children appeared to be in good health, but had not eaten in several hours, a police report said.

The children were taken to the Goshen Police Department and later placed into the custody of the Indiana Department of Child Services.

Police responded to the scene at 8:08 p.m. and the mother was found at 8:20 p.m., according to police.

In another case, Goshen police were called to the 2600 block of Alpine Fir Lane behind Meijer in regards to a report of a child found walking in a nearby street wearing just underwear. The child was in good health, the police report said.

Police were able to find a parent and his residence. The Department of Child Services was also contacted and a report was made regarding the incident. Police did not include an age for the child or a time of the incident. No other details were available.
