ELKHART — Police arrested a man in downtown Elkhart after he led them on a car chase on the south side of the city Thursday afternoon, May 9.

Police were called at about 3:49 p.m. to West Lusher Avenue for a reckless driver. An officer attempted to make a stop a dark gray car going west on Lusher Avenue and the driver refused to pull over, said a police officer at the scene of the arrest.

The driver led police north on Prairie Avenue and Benham Avenue, through the underpass and into the south side of downtown. The chase ended when police surrounded the car near Harrison and Main streets. A man was arrested at the scene and taken away for interrogation.

Police were working to confirm the driver’s identity and driving record. A K-9 unit was called to the scene to check the car.
