ELKHART — An two-vehicle accident hurt two people and closed Bristol Steet for a time Wednesday afternoon.

First responders were called at about 1:45 p.m. Wednesday, May 8, to 1627 E. Bristol St. A woman leaving the Flavor Freeze parking lot on Bristol Street was turning east, when her car was hit by a westbound black car. The woman driving the red car had very minor injuries, but she had to be extricated because the driver’s door was caved in.

A 5-year-old boy was riding in the back seat of the car when the accident happened. He had minor injuries to his head and was being treated at the scene.

Two people in the black car were able to get out of their car and appeared to be fine, said Sgt. Dan Colson of the Elkhart Police Department.

Heather Schooley said she was at the parking lot outside of Bristol Street Pediatrics when she saw the accident.

“It just happened within seconds,” she said. “I ran into the road while my husband called an ambulance.”

Schooley said some firemen off duty were driving by when the accident happened, and they got out from their vehicle to help.

The 1600 block of Bristol Street was closed to traffic for about an hour while first responders worked on the scene.
