BRISTOL — A man is in critical condition after he hit a deer while driving his motorcycle just south of the city limits of Bristol.

First responders were dispatched at about 9:10 p.m. Tuesday to the scene of the accident, according to a press release from the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department.

Gregory Tingstrom, 22, of Bristol, was driving west on C.R. 14, west of S.R. 15, when a deer ran across the road from the north side. Tingstrom tried to stop, but hit the deer. Sheriff’s department officials said he and the vehicle slid sideways down the road after the crash.

Tingstrom had head injuries and was taken to Memorial Hospital in South Bend.

The Elkhart County Sheriff’s crash investigation team was called to the scene and is investigating. No citations were issued as a result of the crash.
