Dowagiac teens recovering from single-vehicle accident

Two teenagers remain in the hospital two days after a single-vehicle accident.

DOWAGIAC — Two teenagers are recovering from a single-vehicle accident in which one was airlifted to the hospital.

Police and EMS units were called at about 7:16 p.m. Saturday, April 27, to Peavine Street near oak Grove Road in LaGrange Township.

According to a press release from the Cass County Sheriff’s Department, Shawn Haley, 16, of Dowagiac, was driving west on Peavine when he tried to pass another westbound vehicle but lost control of his car. He tried over-correcting, flipping his vehicle.

Haley was flown to Memorial Hospital in South Bend in serious condition. Haley is listed in fair condition. Katelyn Brooks, 17, was taken to Dowagiac Lee Memorial Hospital, then transferred to Memorial Hospital in South Bend. She is listed in good condition.

Haley and Brooks were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash, according to the press release.

Police continue to investigate the crash.
