Three people injured after crash on Old U.S. 33 Saturday afternoon
ELKHART — Three people were injured in a three-car crash on Old U.S. 33, just west of Elkhart, Saturday afternoon, March 23.
According to a press release from the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department, Lisa M. Kuzmits, 51, of Elkhart, was driving east on Old U.S. 33, west of C.R. 3, at 1:34 p.m. Saturday when she crashed into the rear of another vehicle driven by Grizsy Birkhead, 66, of Elkhart.
After the initial collision, Kuzmits’ vehicle crossed the center line and crashed head-on into a third vehicle driven by Julia Ritz-Moody, 45, of Granger.
Kuzmits and Ritz-Moody were taken to Elkhart General Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
A passenger in Ritz-Moody’s vehicle, Todd Behling, 33, of Elkhart, was also injured and taken to Elkhart General Hospital.
Kuzmits was cited for speed too fast to avoid a collision.
The crash remains under investigation.
