ELKHART — The Jackson family has raised its offer to $6,000 via Crime Stoppers as a reward for any information leading to the arrest of those involved in the homicide of Kristyana Jackson.

Kimi Jackson, Kristyana’s mom, said the family opened a bank account, where friends and other members of the community had been making deposits. The money raised is being used for the reward.

Kristyana and her mom had just arrived home from a football game at Elkhart Memorial High School the night of Aug. 17 when they were approached by about three individuals.

As soon as the suspects ran toward them, Kimi Jackson screamed. John Jackson, who was taking care of their son, John Jackson Jr., heard the screams and ran out the door of the house, attempting to shield his daughter.

When he came out the burglars started shooting. They hit John Jackson on his arm and back and Kristyana on the head.

Kristyana died two days later in Memorial Hospital in South Bend.

The community has continued to stay in touch with the family through donations and messages of support.

Saturday there will be a Zumba and hip-hop dance session from 6 to 8 p.m. at The Inferno boot camp, 916 Michigan St. There will be a party later starting at 9 p.m. All proceeds from the events will go to the Jackson family.

Capt. Mike Sigsbee of the Elkhart Police Department investigation division said there is no information that can be shared at this time in the investigation.

Kimi Jackson said the family has talked with police, but they have been told authorities are still conducting interviews and are not in the position to update them on the case.
