GOSHEN — Police arrested a woman after she was involved in a single-vehicle traffic accident Wednesday morning.

The accident happened around 9:15 a.m. in the 400 block of Wheatland Drive on the northwest side of Goshen.

Autumn Kiser, 29, driving south from Lincoln Avenue on Wheatland Drive when she approached a curve at the 400 block and the vehicle went left of the center of the road, hitting a mailbox, according to an accident report from the Goshen Police Department. She then tried to correct, causing the car to flip and roll, landing on its top.

She told officers her dog distracted her and when she looked up she hit a mailbox, police said. Officers could not find the dog, but upon looking at Kiser’s residence, which was near the scene of the crash, they found a dog in the back yard, unharmed.

Kiser was arrested for driving while intoxicated with a blood alcohol content greater than 0.15 percent. She was taken to IU Health Goshen Hospital to be treated for cuts on her hands and to receive medical clearance because of her blood alcohol content.

She was booked at the Elkhart County Jail without a bond.
