Thor subsidiary announces expansion plans in Milford

Bison Coach expects to transition production to the new facility by July 31.

Elkhart-based Thor Industries will expand production at its Bison Coach subsidiary in Milford, the company announced Tuesday, June 3.

Bison Coach, acquired by Thor last fall, makes horse trailers with living quarters. The company is buying a 55,000-square-foot production facility on about nine acres in Milford, near its current facility, along with another 20 acres for future expansion as needed.

"Bison’s product lines represent a solid growth opportunity beyond our traditional recreational vehicle markets,” Thor president and CEO Bob Martin said in a statement. “With the solid growth Bison has achieved since their acquisition last fall, we found ourselves in a position of identifying opportunities to expand production quickly. This facility came on the market and it fits Bison’s current production needs while providing the flexibility to meet future growth needs as they arise.”

Bison expects to transition production to the new facility by July 31.

There was no immediate word on what impact the expansion might have on the plant’s employment level.
