Daredevil Brewing to build new brewery and taproom facility

The makers of Lift Off IPA will close their old location in Shelbyville and move to Speedway, Ind. when the new location is completed.

Currently, Daredevil Brewing Company does not have an on-site tasting room, or offer tours. Your only option for enjoying their beer is to check out the long list at their website of where to find their beer. However, plans are in the works to change that. Over the past year, the owners of the brewery searched for a location in order to expand their brewhouse. In the end, they have chosen a brownfield site that will be a great redevelopment opportunity on Main Street, Speedway, IN.

“A craft brewery on Main Street provides a new type of destination location that complements and adds to the growing diversity of local businesses and restaurants in Speedway,” said Vince Noblet, President of the Speedway Redevelopment Commission. “We are excited to welcome Daredevil Brewing Co. to Main Street and our Speedway community.”

Last weekend while in Indianapolis, I was able to pick up my first four pack of Lift Off IPA (7.72% ABV) in 16 oz. cans. According to the brewery, it is “A bounty of American hops (that) deliver(s) the signature clean and crisp finish of a perfectly balanced West Coast style IPA.” I thought that the citrus, mostly grapefruit along with some pineapple and mango, was most prominent in both the aroma and flavor. There were some floral notes, but the piney bitterness was what stood out in my palate. It had a good mouth feel with medium body and a good level of carbonation. Overall, this is a really solid beer.

Construction of the 10,000-square-foot production brewery and tap room will begin later this year. The current production facility in Shelbyville (south east of Indianapolis) will operate until the new brewery is completed, hopefully within the next 12 months.

Daredevil owners are working to finalize the building design, interior design, and determining the new brewery equipment to include in the initial expansion. They have said that they will be very transparent during construction and have even suggested a web cam in order to keep everyone up to date on their progress.

“Main Street, Speedway, is an iconic location that uniquely complements everything Daredevil is about,” said Shane Pearson, co-owner of Daredevil Brewing Co. “After months of due diligence evaluating locations, we found this incredible opportunity to acquire a former brownfield site that supports our business plans and allows us to be a part of the redevelopment of historic Main Street, Speedway.”

My hope is that with their expansion, we will see this and other brands from Daredevil show up on Michiana shelves.
