A lot of places have started offering $2 burgers on Tuesdays.
But Cam Snyder went a step farther with a $3.99 steak and potato special on Mondays.
The owner of Flippin' Cow, 51330 S.R. 19, Elkhart, started a weekly special a few weeks ago after a conversation with a customer about rising food prices. "He said, 'I remember back in the day Black Angus Steak House on Cassopolis Street had a New York Strip special for $3.99.' After that conversation, I thought, "Why can't I do that?" Snyder said in an email.
He's buying strip loins and hand-cutting the steaks at eight to 10 ounces each. He bought an ad in The Elkhart Truth. And the first weeks have been "crazy busy even with the extreme cold and snowy weather."
The special is available with the purchase of any drink, including soft drinks, tea or coffee.
The special starts at 11 a.m. on Mondays and when I was there on Monday, March 3, the place was packed for dinner.
Onions or mushroooms are available for an extra 99 cents each. Fries, tots or baked potato can be put alongside.
How's the steak? It's good. This isn't sirloin. It's not prime beef, but it's a good steak and the price makes it even better.
And if you want a deal on a burger at Flippin' Cow, they're $1.99 each on Wednesdays.
