Green smoothies part of offerings at Goshen's Better World Books
The Electric Brew stand at Better World Books has added a splash of green.
Missy Weirich, who has been the bookstore assistant manager, is now managing the drink spot inside the bookstore at 215 S. Main St., Goshen. It's being dubbed Brewthies on Main.
Coffee and baked goods continue to be available, but Weirich is trying to build the drink business with green smoothies.
She uses ingredients from Clay Bottom Farm east of Goshen and from Maple City Market to create bright green drinks. Kale or spinach are blended with fruits and then put in 8- or 16-ounce cups. A large is $5.75.
Weirich has been a believer in smoothies for a couple years after battling cancer. She said she did it because she wanted to be healthier and became a believer. This isn't soda. The vegetables and fruits blended together are a bit sweet, but if you haven't had a green smoothie before be ready for the taste of the spinach or kale. I'm a huge fan, but not everyone is.
The hours for the booth inside the store are 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. but Weirich said the hours could expand if business grows.
The grand opening for Brewthies on Main is during Goshen's First Friday this week. From 5 to 9 p.m. free samples of three or four flavors will be offered, she said. (The store will also have an event with Eric Strader, writer of our Hop Notes blog.)
