Constant Spring resurrects one tradition, spikes another

Constant Spring in Goshen has done away with Karaoke night and will now be open on Mondays.

When Aaron Nafziger bought Constant Spring in Goshen, he said he didn't want to change much.

He loved and loves the place.

But as happens with new owners, he's making a few changes.

Karaoke on Wednesday nights is gone. "It wasn't drawing enough people to be worth it," he said.

He didn't kill the radio star, but he may have killed the karaoke star. (He didn't want to say that, but I think it's fine in this case.)

The regulars who did participate understood. Perhaps they're now relegated to shower singing rather than for an audience at the bar. The main feature of Wednesdays at the bar at 219 S. Main St., Goshen, is the oval plate special, which is an ethnic food offering for $12. That's gotten really popular, particularly on pad Thai night.

But the bigger change is that starting Sept. 9, the Spring will be open again on Mondays.

Former owner Jason Oswald opted to close on Mondays starting last summer.

I was a Monday regular who understood, but missed having supper there on Mondays with some friends.

"We're going to try it during football season," Nafziger said. He figured he'd be watching Monday Night Football anyway and may as well be at the bar watching on a big screen with customers and friends.

He said the most common request he heard from customers was, "You should bring back Monday."

So he is. "Why not give it a try?" he said.

Starting Sept. 9, hours will be 4 p.m. to close, which is technically 2 a.m. but not usually that late on Mondays.

Business has been strong since he took over, he said. "Having fun. Really am," he said.
