Elkhart man forced to stop selling food out of trunk in parking lot
ELKHART – An Elkhart man has been forced to stop selling food from the trunk of a vehicle after a complaint was made to the Elkhart County Health Department.
On Monday, Feb. 10, the health department discovered that Jose Correon Arellano was selling steamed corn and wagon wheels, a type of puffed wheat, out of the back of a car in front of Cueramaro Supermarket on Lusher Avenue in Elkhart, according to a press release from the department.
The food was illegally prepared in Arellano’s residence without an inspection to verify sanitation and training requirements were met, the release says. He did not have a valid food service license.
Arellano will not be permitted to prepare and distribute food again until he is fully compliant with the appropriate county and state requirements and ordinances.
