GOSHEN — To round out fair week, the Elkhart County 4-H Fair had a big day at the livestock auction. 4-H members raised $1,160,342.28 this year, about $120,000 more than last year.
The total set an all-time high.
That includes the sale of 4-Her Lane Flowers’ steer for more than $15,000. The money and the animal were donated to Church Community Services’ Seed to Feed program, which provides food for Elkhart County residents in need.
The rabbit, poultry and dairy feeder calf auctions all set new barn records, raising more than $28,000 more than their combined totals last year.
The beef and swine auctions also set new barn records, raising $27,000 and $20,000 more than their previous records, respectively.
The money to purchase each animal goes to the animal’s 4-H member owner.
