The judges have spoken, and Sarah Stump is Fair Queen for the 2014 Elkhart County 4-H Fair.

First runner-up Cassie VanDiepenbos, second runner-up Andrea Kline, third runner-up Jessica Gorden and fourth runner-up Tori VanDiepenbos will make up the 2014 fair queen court. Cassie VanDiepenbos was also named Miss Congeniality, and received the crown from last year’s Miss Congeniality and one of this year’s semifinalists, Allie Herkenroder.

Ten young women were chosen as pageant semifinalists after a preliminary round Wednesday, July 16. The top 10 also included Jennifer Fry, Taylor Miller, Madison Pike and Kirsten Senn.

Semifinalists were judged on modeling business clothes and evening gowns at the pageant Friday, July 18, as well as a question and answer segment.

During her turn, Stump was asked to name her parents’ best trait.

“They’ve always told me to follow my dreams,” she said.

Stump quoted their advice.

“Everyone is perfect just the way God created them.”

Stump, 16, is a junior at NorthWood High School and lives in Nappanee. She’s involved in a large number of activities in school, including 4-H Sewing Club and Fashion Revue, 4-H Swine Club, soccer, choir, cross country, track and field, and student council. Stump is also on the principal’s honor roll and volunteers for Goshen Health Systems’ “Children with a Difference” program, as well as Faith Missions Elkhart.

After she won the pageant, Stump hugged her fellow contestants and 2013 Fair Queen Sierra Walter.

She wanted to thank her family and friends for supporting her.

“I was blessed to have this opportunity,” she said. “Any dream can come true.”
