BRISTOL — A new corrugated sheets maker in Bristol is planning a hiring event on Wednesday, Aug. 27, to fill 40 positions.
Alliance Sheets, building a $24 million production facility in the town, is looking to hire a control room operator, corrugated module facer operators, baler operators, sheet line operators, stackers, clamp truck operators, fork truck operators and maintenance and electrical workers. Hourly wages range from $13.50 to $30, with first- and second-shift positions available.
The hiring event will run from noon to 6 p.m. Wednesday at the RV/MH Hall of Fame, 21565 Executive Parkway, Elkhart.
Candidates must be able to pass a measurement and basic math test. Interviews will be conducted on the spot, and picture identification and Social Security cards are required, according to a press release from Work One of Northern Indiana, which is helping the company coordinate the event.
Doug Shaeffer, regional general manager for the company, said his goal is for the plant to be operational by Oct. 13. A select group of 14 new hires, two employees for each new job function, will be sent to another site the company owns in Kansas City, Mo. for two weeks of training at the end of September. Those employees will then help train other employees in Bristol.
The plant will produce sheets of corrugated paper that will then be sent to customers who make corrugated boxes. Shaeffer said it will use a state-of-the-art machine that exists in only six other places in the world.
“It’s a pretty big deal,” Shaeffer said. “For our industry, it’s a game-changer. It can produce a lot of product.”
Shaeffer said the goal is to add a third shift by the middle of next year that will require hiring another 20 to 25 workers.
"Our market study shows plenty of opportunities here,” Shaeffer said. “We’ve already got some volume locked in.”
