Power is expected to be fully restored in South Bend by noon Sunday, May 18, according to a press release from Indiana Michigan Power (I&M).
Following an underground fire in a man hole that cut off power to much of downtown South Bend Thursday night, May 15, crews for I&M worked through the night to pull in new underground wire. They will continue working throughout Saturday, May 17, to link the ends of the wire together.
I&M customers running on a properly installed generator are encouraged to continue, while customers without generators are asked to shut off all non-essential items.
Memorial Hospital is currently able to accept ambulance traffic and walk-in patients, according to a recent update.
