An Elkhart trash truck driver was one of nine drivers selected from 908 nominees as a Driver of the Year at a waste and recycling industry conference Tuesday, April 29 in Atlanta.

David Rogenski, a driver for Borden Waste-Away Service Inc., won in the small company category, according to a statement from the National Waste & Recycling Association.

Rogenski has worked 18 years for Borden, driving an average of 633 miles a week for more than 6,000 pickups along his routes in Elkhart.

"When I do the best job that I can for the company, the company and I will be more successful," Rogenski said in a statement. "I'm proud to be honored by the waste industry for my service and safety record."

The awards recognize drivers who have excellent safety records, respect for their companies, and high standards of customer service, the association said.
