Nappanee trailer maker to donate green prize to Goshen Farmers Market

ATC Trailers will put the $5,000 prize it won for their green manufacturing practices to a worthy community institution.

NAPPANEE — A Nappanee trailer maker has been honored for its environmentally friendly practices and is giving its prize money to the Goshen Farmer's Market.

PPG Commercial Coatings and the National Association of Trailer Manufacturers have named ATC Trailers as their Green Manufacturer of the Year. ATC is donating the $5,000 prize to the farmer's market.

ATC won the award for its improvements in waste diversion, energy efficiency, and water and air quality, which include:

  • Recycling or reusing all wood and metal scraps.
  • Daily collection and recycling of paper and plastic items.
  • A continuing commitment to a lean manufacturing protocol that has cut energy consumption by 50 percent in three years.
  • Reducing water runoff.
  • Enhancing interior ventillation systems.

ATC will present the Goshen Farmers Market with the check at the group's board meeting Thursday, March 11.
