ELKHART — An Elkhart-based boat maker says it needs to hire more workers to meet rising demand for its products.

Nautic Global Group, which makes pontoon and deck boats, will be accepting applications and conducting "open interviews" from 12:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 25, at its Hurricane 2 plant, 4310 Middlebury St.

The company is looking to fill 70 open positions among its three area plants in Elkhart, at 300 E. Chicago St., Syracuse, and 300 W. Chicago St. in Syracuse.

Nautic Global Group is expanding production across five brands: Hurricane, Rinker, Godfrey Pontoons, Polar Kraft and Parti Kraft.

"These are exciting times for Nautic Global Group, and as the demand for our products increase, we will continue to rely heavily on the strong workforce found throughout Michiana," said Doug Sexton, senior vice president of sales and marketing.

This is the second time in recent months that the company has announced it needs more workers. In early December it publicized a job fair in which it said it was looking for 100 new workers.

Most of these 70 positions being filled this week are in addition to the 100 hired from the December job fair, said Jeff Roth, marketing director.

The pay ranges from $10 an hour for assembly workers to $18.25 an hour and up for more skilled positions, such as welders. Positions include fiberglass lamination (rollers, gel coaters, fiberglass repair/buffers), industrial sewers, upholsterers, assemblers with air tool experience, maintenance technicians and aluminum TIG welders.
