ELKHART — Representatives of SoMa, the city of Elkhart's revitalization entity, have scheduled a news conference for Friday, Feb. 14, and several announcements are expected.

The announcements will be made beginning at 10:30 a.m. in the lobby of the Lerner Theatre.

SoMa's "live, work and play," mantra addresses three core areas of attention that officials believe are key to revitalizing the downtown. The announcements are expected to involve one or more of those segments.

SoMa stands for Supporting Our Main Assets and is geared, in part, to promoting and coordinating downtown activities and tourist spots.

The SoMa initiative began more than two years ago at the request of Mayor Dick Moore and was officially adopted by the city redevelopment commission late last year. As part of that, the city added three paid positions at Lerner Threatre to carry out some of the plans.

Reporters from The Truth will be staffing the meeting. Look for coverage through Twitter and online stories as announcements are made.
