Winnebago tops 2012 motor home sales

FOREST CITY, Iowa — Winnebago announced Thursday, Feb. 14, that it was the number-one motorhome manufacturer in 2012.

The company, which has its towable division located in Elkhart County, edged out Thor Industries for the number-one motorhome spot in the Statistical Surveys Inc. report for December and year-end 2012, according to trade publication RVBusiness.

Winnebago was the top-selling manufacturer for class-A and class-C motorhomes in 2012, with 20.6 market share, up from 19 percent in 2011, according to the company.

Thor had 20 percent, Forest River had 12 percent and Fleetwood RV had 11.4 percent, according to RVBusiness.

Winnebago’s volume growth was 16.1 percent over last year, compared to overall industry growth of 7.3 percent for motorhomes, according to the company.
