Campaign challenges Facebook users to abandon the site for 99 days

Could 99 days without Facebook make you happier?

One nonprofit is on a mission to find out with a campaign called 99 Days of Freedom

Created by an agency in the Netherlands called Just, the initiative challenges users to refrain from logging onto the social media site for 99 days — that includes apps and messenger services.

Afterwards, participants are asked to report back on how the break affected their personal notions of happiness, according to a press release.

The challenge is in response to Facebook’s controversial mood experiment on unsuspecting users.

Merijn Straathof, art director for the agency, said in a press release that the campaign isn’t anti-Facebook and there’s a lot to love about the site.

"But we also feel that there are obvious emotional benefits to moderation. Our prediction is that the experiment will yield a lot of positive personal experiences and, 99 days from now, we’ll know whether that theory has legs,” Straathof said in the release.
