ELKHART — Of the 62 arrests reported in Elkhart County over the Fourth of July weekend, nearly one-third were alcohol related.

According to booking reports from the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department — which also accounts for Elkhart city and Goshen city police department arrests — 20 of the 62 arrests made July 3-7 were alcohol related.

Of those 20 arrests, 17 were operating while intoxicated charges. Two arrests were tied to public intoxication and one was illegal possession/consumption/transportation of alcohol.

By comparison, the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department reported three alcohol-related arrests (two OWIs, one public intoxication) July 1 and July 2.

File - In the Oct. 18, 2014 file photo, Garteh Korkoryah, center, mother of Thomas Eric Duncan, is comforted during a memorial service for her son. It may not matter much that Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Dallas apologized for initially misdiagnosing Duncan, who was sent home from the emergency room but later returned sicker and farther along on a painful decline to death from Ebola. Insulated by Texas tort reform that gives an extra layer of protection to emergency room doctors and nurses, not only is the very feasibility of winning a lawsuit complicated, but the potential payout is severely capped.
