The weather was kind to runners participating in this year’s Sunburst Races in downtown South Bend.

The morning was warm with nearly cloudless skies, and between 8,000 and 9,000 people signed up to run on Saturday, May 31, the South Bend Tribune reported.

Race day events include a fun walk, 5K run, 10K run, half marathon and marathon.

The influx of people provided a boost for local businesses, with about 80 percent of hotels in St. Joseph County were booked for the weekend, according to the Tribune.

While the finish line has traditionally been located at Notre Dame’s Stadium, work being done to install FieldTurf on the playing field moved the race’s endpoint to Moose Krause Circle on campus, according to Sunburst’s website.
