The expansion of Elkhart General Hospital’s surgery center is nearing completion, and the Beacon Health System will celebrate the final beam being put in place Thursday.

The ceremony will begin at 11 a.m., May 15, outside the West Wing of the hospital. Two new floors were built above the three-story West Wing, which will include new surgical and endoscopy suites and 43 private patient rooms for post-surgery care.

Surgical suites will be moved from the existing hospital structure to the new floors. The expanded surgery center is scheduled to open in 2015.
