Goshen to begin issuing permits for urban chickens

Goshen residents who want to raise hens within city limits can begin filling out applications to become part of a new pilot program. The city will issue up to 50 permits to residents over the next two years, allowing them to keep up to six hens on properties in the city. The ordinance, which was passed in April, requires residents to obtain the written approval of all adjoining property owners. The fowl must also be kept outside in enclosures with chicken coops or a covered pen or run.

Purdue's traveling Coaches Caravan stops in Elkhart

Several Purdue coaches visited Elkhart on Thursday, May 8, as part of the university’s traveling Coaches Caravan, a state-wide tour where coaches get to meet with alumni and fans. Head football coach Darrell Hazell, basketball coach Matt Painter and women’s basketball coach Sharon Versyp were among the coaches present during the event at the Lerner Theatre.

Annual National RV Trade Show may move from Louisville

The Recreational Vehicle Industry Association is considering movings its biggest trade show from Louisville, Ky., to Indianapolis, officials said Thursday, May 8. The National RV Trade Show may eventually take place at the Indiana Convention Center and Lucas Oil Stadium. The event has been held in Kentucky for the last 52 years, and the RVIA is under contract to have the event in Louisville until 2015.

Police arrest man in connection with 1st Source Bank robbery

The Elkhart Police Department arrested a man they believe was involved in the robbery of a 1st Source Bank in Elkhart on Wednesday morning. They arrested Antwan Hasson Horton, 18, on the preliminary charge of robbery. Police were called to the bank on 2020 E. Bristol St. at 10:20 a.m. on May 7. They located a car believed to have been used in the robbery later in the day.

Notre Dame's Zack Martin heading to Dallas

Former University of Notre Dame player Zack Martin was chosen as the 16th overall pick in the NFL Draft by the Dallas Cowboys on Thursday, May 8. The offensive tackle from Indianapolis played in 52 games during his five years at Notre Dame.
