Readers respond to the passage of Goshen's urban chicken ordinance
A two-year pilot program will allow up to 50 permits for those who want to keep chickens within Goshen city limits.
Goshen City Council approved an ordinance on Tuesday, April 15, that allows the permit-holders to keep up to six hens. Applicants will be charged a $25 dollar registration fee and must get written permission from other adjoining property owners.
The ordinance comes weeks after the Goshen City Council initially turned down the ordinance on March 18. Council members discussed the public health concerns and the potential negative impact on property values.
