Elkhart County approves $90,000 in overtime pay after this winter

GOSHEN – The Elkhart County Board of Commissioners approved several appropriation requests from the Elkhart County Highway Department Monday morning, March 31.

Two appropriations requests for overtime pay totaled $90,000 — $80,000 from the motor vehicle highway fund and $10,000 from the cumulative bridge fund.

“This is from taking the hit this winter,” said Jeff Taylor, manager of the Elkhart County Highway Department.

The highway department also made the following appropriations requests:

  • $30,535 from the motor vehicle highway fund for administrative assistant salary
  • $125,000 from the economic development income tax for a signal improvement project
  • $96,000 from the local road & street fund for vehicle repairs and bridge and traffic lights
  • $310,000 from the cumulative bridge fund for a bridge project on C.R. 4 east of C.R. 7

The commissioners unanimously approved the requests.
