One person is dead and two were injured in a shooting in South Bend on Wednesday night, March 26, as reported by the South Bend Tribune.
Police responded to a call that came in at 8:15 p.m. reporting a shooting in the 1800 block of Johnson Street. The St. Joseph County Metro Homicide Unit was also called to the scene.
Police officers pushed back the gathering crowd and told them that there were armed suspects holed up in one of the houses. Officers then conducted searches through the neighborhood, the street and between the houses armed with assault rifles.
The South Bend Tribune reports that their reporter and photographer saw two persons handcuffed and placed in police vehicles, but their involvement in the shooting is not clear.
South Bend Police Capt. Phil Trent said one of the victims died after he was shot in the chest. The conditions of the two other victims are not known.
