Funeral arrangements announced for gunman in Elkhart shooting
ELKHART — Funeral arrangements have been announced for a man who police say shot and killed two women at a local grocery store on Wednesday, Jan. 15.
Police say Shawn Walter Bair shot and killed two women at Martin's Super Market on Bristol Street Wednesday night, Jan. 15, before two Elkhart police officers shot and killed him.
Friends and loved ones may join the family at a visitation planned for 5 to 6 p.m. Monday, Jan. 20, at Walley-Mills-Zimmerman Funeral Home, 700 E. Jackson Blvd., Elkhart. The funeral home has asked Elkhart Police Department to provide security for the visitation.
Bair's obituary says that he leaves behind his parents, stepparents, five siblings, two grandmothers, and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Juanita Whitacre, mother of Krystle Dikes, one of the shooting's victims, said she feels sympathy for Bair's family.
“His family's loss is as important as mine,” she said. “There are three people who died and their families have all had a loss.”
Bair's family has asked that donations in Bair's memory go to Riley Children's Hospital.
